Wisconsin football recruiting: Badgers offer Myles Murphy, Trenton Simpson

The dead period is now over with another contact period kicking up for college football recruiting, so offers from the Wisconsin Badgers coaching staff have started to circulate once again.

With four verbal commitments for the 2020 recruiting class already publicly known, head coach Paul Chryst and his staff continue to work to build relationships with the next recruiting cycle.

B5Q will break down more in the coming week about some of the 2020 offers seen both in December and this month, but let’s start with one extended to a five-star prospect who is being recruited by some of the best programs in the FBS.

DE Myles Murphy

Wisconsin showed its interest in the Powder Springs, Ga., (Hillgrove) native on Friday, when the highly-coveted junior tweeted the opportunity.

247Sports and Rivals both rate Murphy as a five-star prospect (four-star by ESPN), with 247Sports’ composite rankings listing him as the No. 13 player overall and No. 2 strong-side defensive end in the country. Rivals designates him as the No. 11 player overall and No. 2 at his position.

Both recruiting services list 14 offers, as Alabama, Georgia, Clemson, Auburn, Florida, Michigan, Penn State, among others, hope to court the defensive lineman.

Georgia appears to be the favorite based on those services’ predictions.

OLB/RB Trenton Simpson

Rated a three-star recruit by 247Sports and Rivals, Simpson tweeted his offer on Wednesday. For what it’s worth, the tweet is currently pinned on his profile.

247Sports reports 11 offers for Simpson, including from NC State, North Carolina, South Carolina, Duke, Purdue, and Virginia, among others. Evan Flood also has a Crystal Ball prediction in for the Badgers, so it may be worth keeping an eye out on his recruiting process going forward.

Rivals lists the Charlotte, N.C. (Mallard Creek) standout as an outside linebacker, with 247Sports denoting him as a running back.

Recent signees from the Tar Heel State include cornerback Madison Cone (2017) and defensive lineman Gio Paez (2019).
