Kalynuk, a 2018 Honorable Mention All-Big Ten and 2018 Big Ten All-Freshman Team pick, led the Badgers with 22 assists last year and is one point shy of returning as the team’s leading scorer after posting 25 points in 2017-18.
The Virden, Manitoba, native, became the first Badger rookie defenseman since Ulvis Katlaps (1992-93) to score at least 25 points in a season and the eighth rookie to reach the mark all-time.
A 2017 seventh-round draft pick by the Philadelphia Flyers, Kalynuk will anchor a blue line for the 2018-19 season that boasts five NHL draft picks, and a sixth in Peter Tischke, who is a two-time honorable mention All-Big Ten selection.
Wisconsin opens the season on Sunday, Oct. 7 at 5 p.m. with an exhibition game against the University of Victoria at the Kohl Center. Tickets are $5 for the exhibition.
The regular season begins Friday, Oct. 13 against perennial-power Boston College at the Kohl Center.
