MADISON – The UW-Oshkosh women’s basketball team lost to the Wisconsin Badgers 79-51 in an exhibition game Sunday at the Kohl Center.
Erin Vande Zande, a senior from Oconomowoc, led Oshkosh with eight points while sophomore Leah Porath, a former New London standout, led the Titans with nine rebounds.
The Badgers took a 12-0 lead in the first five minutes of the game and never trailed. The Titans scored nine consecutive points after Wisconsin’s initial run to pull within 12-9, but would never get closer.
The Badgers shot 48.3 percent (29-for-60) from the field while the Titans hit just 29 percent (18-for-62) from the field.
Marsha Howard led the Badgers with 16 points. Courtney Fredrickson, Kelly Karlis and Alex Luehring all added 11 points to the Badgers offense.
Luehring hit a 3-pointer with 5:11 on the clock to put Wisconsin up 31-21 and the Badgers kept a double-digit lead the rest of the game.
Badgers coach Jonathon Tsipis was impressed with the Titans.
“We talked this week about the success Coach (Brad) Fisher and the Oshkosh program have had and that their kids would keep battling,” Tsipis said.
The Titans open the regular season Friday at home against Loras College.
