Wisconsin has flipped Akron athlete commit Quan Easterling (Akron, Ohio./Hoban). Taking his official visit to Madison over the weekend, Easterling opted to join the Badgers next season.
“I committed to Wisconsin,” Easterling told Badger247 following his official visit.
Easterling had been verbally committed to the Zips since June. He chose Akron over Dartmouth and Toledo.
However, the Badgers offered the three-star athlete in October, eyeing Easterling to play fullback.
“I was very excited,” Easterling said after the offer. “They’re Big Ten. Even though I am committed to Akron, I think it’s a very good opportunity.”
UCLA also recently offered Easterling and were expected to get an official visit next weekend.
Offensive coordinator Joe Rudolph was the lead recruiter for Easterling, who was part of Hoban’s 15-0 state championship squad.
“He likes how I play similarly to the way they use fullbacks there — versatile and downhill.”
With senior fullback Alec Ingold graduating after the 2018 season, Easterling also sees a chance to play in the Big Ten immediately.
“They have a senior fullback, so I think that opens up an opportunity,” he said. “If I go there and work for it, I might be able to play.
“Plus it’s a chance to get away from home.”
Easterling is Wisconsin’s 18th verbal commitment in their 2019 recruiting class, which currently ranks No. 28 in the 247sports composite national team recruiting rankings. He is expected to sign during the early signing period, which begins Dec. 19.
“I love the coaching staff at Wisconsin, and I love their style of play, because it really fits me very well,” Easterling told 247sports.
