OSHKOSH – A charity started by Wisconsin men’s basketball coach Greg Gard partnered with Ascension Mercy Hospital to donate $20,000 to the Oasis, a Hair Studio, to help cancer patients who experience hair loss.
A check presentation was held Nov. 2 at halftime of the University of Wisconsin Badgers’ second annual Garding Against Cancer Exhibition Game at the Kohl Center in Madison. The Badgers played the UW-Oshkosh Titans.
Heather Roesch, oncology social worker at the Michael D. Wachtel Cancer Center, joined four other providers as part of the starting five lineup for the presentation.
The Mercy Health Foundation was presented a check for $20,000 for the Oasis. The money will be used to support expenses associated with anyone from the Oshkosh area who has experienced hair loss due to cancer.
Gard and his wife, Michelle, started the Garding Against Cancer Foundation to honor Greg’s father, who died of complications related to cancer in 2015.
Liz Rice-Janzen is the foundation officer at Mercy Health Foundation.
